AND the never ending summer starts

Yes, summer in kolkata has started some 1 month back, but its better being late than being sorry about not writing on it. Nowadays, the period ranges from March to November and extends till december at times. The rainy season is just a sporadic instance in the on-going summer assault. In local parlance, they say "ekhane du mash sheet arr baki dos mash gorom". Thats exactly the way weather pattern has changed in recent years.

It must be accepted that the severity of summer increases on account of the humidity that this city faces. The humdity will swap all your energies and make you exhausted to say the least.

The aam admi gets depressed but well, as the economist says the ideal market place will take care of all demand-supply gaps. Though the market place in Kolkata is far from ideal, but the supply of different types of food items, fashionable clothes and the evening breeze from ganges takes care of the demand for changing the depressed mood of the people. Moreover, there is the quintessential adda - If you can enjoy that even for 10 mins after your daily grind at office, its worth beating the heat and living in Kolkata.

Change....is it really happening?

It has been 6 months since i wrote in this blog. Time really passes by like a whisker and now its the end of 2009. Dont know how this year passed by so fast, but can surely say that sometimes running so fast seems futile, sometimes the daily grind for office seems so redundant and sometimes eveything boils down to zilch. However, life moves on and Kolkata seems to be moving too.
One of the biggest change for Kolkata is the extension of metro from Tollygunge till Garia Station. Wish the breathing space was more than a bonga local in the sealdah line, but still something is better than nothing. At least it saves the time and energy which can be devoted to some other work.
But what kolkata needs to change is the fondness for bandhs or strikes. Recently, the public sector banks called for a strike and closed their shops. The problem became acute when they forecefully closed the branches of private sector banks also. I dont think any other metro would allow this to happen. Kolkata still seems to be living in the Marxist or Communist era and aloof of how the other metros are progressing.
Anyways, got to go now. Hope to visit and update this blog consistently.

back to kolkata

“Welcome to hell”, they said, when I took transfer to Kolkata. But later on, I realized that it wasn’t that bad a decision. Infact, life seems to have come to a full circle. This is the city where I started my journey. Anyways, coming back to kolkata, I feel there are a lot of positive qualities in the city that are often overlooked while passing a judgement on her.

The people here are absolutely crazy. You need crazy guys to do great things. They participate in every event of sports, culture, music….everything basically. I don’t think in any city of India you will find such a huge crowd participating in all type of debates. This in real sense is what we call a debating society. The citizens argue on each and every event and the possible outcomes. Argument is our birthright, but I don’t see that happening in public places in any other metro of India.

The only issue here is the humidity. You will start sweating the moment you step out of your AC room. The saving grace is obviously, the metro. It is spot on time and rushes to your destination within minutes. If it is non-functional for even one day, then more than half of office goers will suffer.

Will write more as and when i can squeeze out some time for kolkata
